To perpetuate community spirit at Birchwood School of Hawken while maintaining the many projects and initiatives of the school and the Birchwood Parent Committee, each family is required to contribute five hours of volunteer service annually.
Jobs that can be done at school, or occasionally at home, will be listed throughout the school year in the weekly Birchwood News email that is sent to parents. Additionally, teachers will also request assistance for help in their classrooms or on field trips.
One major event that requires many volunteer hours is the annual International Festival and Auction (IFA) that is held the first Saturday in December. Families are encouraged to take the time to volunteer for this fun afternoon that brings together the school community and serves as the school’s main fundraising event.
For parents who have work or time constraints which prohibit volunteering, a donation of $200 may be made in lieu of service hours.
