Pair of Birchwood Students Place in Stone Soup Magazine Contest
Two Birchwood School of Hawken seventh-graders earned recognition from Stone Soup magazine for December entries in its monthly Flash Fiction writing contest. Chrysanthi Constantinou’s entry earned Winner honors and Andrew Khawam earned Honorable Mention for the same age category.
Students aged 9 through 13 were prompted to write a story about a family heirloom. Stone Soup recognized a total of 10 young writers, choosing five Winners and five Honorable Mentions.
The first week of each month, Stone Soup holds a Flash contest the first week of the month challenging students to write a submission less than 2,000 words.
Stone Soupis 100% written and illustrated by kids through age 13. Now in its 50th year, Stone Soup has been inspiring children to read, write and create their own artworks for publication in the magazine and on its website, www.StoneSoup.com.
Stone Soup is published by the California-based, nonprofit Children’s Art Foundation, which relies on subscriptions and donations to fund its work. Its mission is to support the writers and artists of the future by reaching young readers through short stories, poetry, art, photography and thought-provoking reviews created by their peers.
